THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE OF STUDENTS AND POSTGRADUATES "PROBLEMS OF THE ARCTIC REGION" WAS FOR THE 18 TIME
May 15, 2019 in Murmansk, the leading academic and educational institutions of the Kola Arctic: Polar Geophysical Institute, Murmansk Arctic State University, Murmansk State Technical University, Murmansk Marine Biological Institute and Kola Scientific Center held the XVIII International Scientific Conference of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students “Problems of the Arctic Region”.
The main goal of the traditional conference was to orient attention of high school students to scientific research of natural and social processes in the Arctic region, increase level of education and attract talented young people to work in science, industry and higher education. 137 reports were presented on current issues of the Arctic region and youth participation in the development of the North in plenary and 7 breakout sessions. The conference was attended by over 200 people from Apatity, Arkhangelsk, Kaluga, Kirovsk, Murmansk, St. Petersburg, Bodo, Morgentown, Lawrence.
The section "Arctic Hydrobiology and Ichthyology" was held and included 23 reports, on the basis of MMBI KSC RAS. Presented works were devoted to the study of biology and population ecology features of various links of marine ecosystems in the Arctic. Most of reports were made by undergraduate and graduate students of Murmansk State Technical University and Murmansk Arctic State University. Winners of the creative competition for the best report on the section were V.A. Dudina (I place for the report “Reproductive potential of males of the Umba Atlantic salmon population (Salmo salar L.)”), Z.Yu. Rumyantsev (II place for the report "Growth and reproduction of the freshwater bivalve mollusk Henslowiana Lilljeborgii (Clessin in Esmark et Hoyer, 1886) (Bivalvia, Pisidioidea) in the conditions of small Arctic lakes"), V.А. Bogdanov (III place for the report "Some aspects of the biology of the non-target species of the ichthyofauna Triglops pingelii in the Kara Sea").
