JOINT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE "INTERCARTO / INTERGIS-25" "GEO-INFORMATION SECURITY OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF TERRITORIES" AND "GIS FOR THE SILK ROAD - 3" ENDED

From January 30 to February 2, 2019, the Russian part of the 25th International Conference “Geo-informational Security of Sustainable Development of Territories” took place in Murmansk, continuing a long-term tradition of international scientific events “InterCarto-InterGIS”. Murmansk Marine Biological Institute in collaboration with the Murmansk Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, MASU, Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov became organizers of the scientific forum. Meetings were held on the basis of Murmansk Arctic State University and the Information Center for Atomic Energy in Murmansk on the ice-breaker “Lenin”. During four busy days of the scientific forum, 40 scientific reports were heard, two round tables, a Skype session were held, several collective visits to significant geographical points of the Murmansk region were organized.


The International Conference was attended by 120 experts representing various regions and cities of Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Murmansk, Apatity, Vologda, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Barnaul, Sevastopol, Perm, Krasnodar, Pushchino), as well as foreign countries (Austria, Belgium , Italy, China, Poland), working in the field of cartography, geo-information technologies, the creation and application of GIS in the practice of interdisciplinary research. There was a live video broadcast of all meetings, followed by more than 100 people every day.

At the meetings of round tables and in the discussion, conference participants noted that speakers showed tremendous possibilities of modern geo-information technologies for solving various practical problems. In the final resolution, the Conference recommended to the Scientific and Technical Expert Councils of the Administration of the Murmansk Region to make wider use of modern geo-information technologies that ensure timely updating of the problems of the region and the preparation of weighted recommendations for solving them, taking into account environmental state. This recommendation is given in order to increase sustainable development of the Murmansk region and gradual transition to an economy based on knowledge, as well as taking into account the geographical location of the region on the north-western border of the Russian Federation.
