IN MURMANSK MARINE BIOLOGICAL INSTITUTE, THE XIV ALL-RUSSIAN CONFERENCE WITH INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION "INTEGRATED STUDIES OF SVALBARD NATURE AND OFFSHORE" WAS HELD.

The XIV All-Russian Scientific Conference " Integrated studies of Svalbard nature and offshore" was held in MMBI from October 30 to November 2, 2018, two years after the previous one. The conference was not only a platform where new scientific data on nature and history of the archipelago were discussed but also a meeting of colleagues and friends working together in the harsh conditions of the high-latitude Arctic. Researchers from Apatit, Arkhangelsk, Barentsburg, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Kirovsk, Lomonosov, Moscow, Murmansk, Obninsk, Petrozavodsk, Rostov-on-Don, St. Petersburg, Tomsk, Tyumen and Longyearbyen (Norway) delivered reports. The co-authors of the research were colleagues from Poland, Norway, and the USA. The interest of the main scientific foundations in funding research in the Arctic has led to the formation of new creative teams with the participation of young researchers, a cooperation of various organizations, expansion of scientific topics. Scientists from Siberia participated in the conference for the first time. Traditional directions for the forum were of geology, glaciology, seismology, geophysics, atmospheric physics, climatology, oceanology, biogeochemistry, soil science, zoology, botany, ecology, history and archeology have been expanded due to new, actively developed in recent years in Svalbard - morphology and reproductive biology of marine organisms, ecotoxicology, human ecology at the junction of ecology and medicine. A positive renewal of the membership and research areas was obvious for participants. The Russian Research Center in Svalbard has played a major role in coordinating work, logistics, and expanding research topics on the archipelago in recent years. The Svalbard Science Forum (Svalbard Science Forum), whose goal is the international coordination and promotion of research in Svalbard, has shown great interest in the event held by MMBI H. Andersen, representing at the SSF conference, carefully read the results of Russian researchers in Svalbard. The conference was supported by funding for the State Project MMBI KSC RAS "Comprehensive studies of ecosystems of fjords and seas washing the Spitsbergen archipelago", and the publication of materials - the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
