NEW REPRINT EDITION ABOUT THE INSTITUTE FOR THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF AZOV BRANCH OF MMBI CREATION

In September 1997, MMBI initiated the first integrated expedition to the Sea of Azov organized by Academician G.G. Matishov. And in 1998, it was decided to create the Azov branch of MMBI KSC RAS in Rostov-on-Don, and the preprint “Integrated Ecosystem Research of the Sea of Azov” was published. Achievements of academic science were noticed by the leaders of the Southern Federal District, and with their active support in 2002 the Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences was established, headed by Academician G.G. Matishov.
By the 20th anniversary of the joint history of the Azov branch of MMBI and the SSC RAS, scientific institutions published a book “The Sea of Azov: oceanography, physical geography, hydrobiology in academic works of academician G.G. Matishov”, which is a reprint reproduction of the articles of 1998–2017 Acad. G.G. Matishov and co-authors. The collection includes selected works that give an idea of the current state and trends in the ecosystem of the Sea of Azov. The articles present results of integral studies, starting from 1998, in the field of geomorphology, paleogeography, hydrology, hydrochemistry, radiochemistry, ecotoxicology, hydrobiology, sea ecology and nature conservation, as well as sociology and political science. The dependence of ecosystem functioning on climatic phenomena and anthropogenic factors is described. The main directions of hydrobiont communities structure variability and reasons for the decrease in fish productivity of the reservoir are shown. |
