THANKS TO JOINT EFFORTS OF SCIENTISTS AND GAME MANAGERS THERE IS AN INCREASE IN THE FLOCK OF WILD GEESES OF VESELOVSKY RESERVOIR
04.09.2018
The grey goose, which is a hunting resource, at the turn of the XX-XXI centuries underwent a catastrophic decline in numbers. Since 2004, research on the introduction of rational methods of this species population management has been conducted at Veselovsky reservoir (the western part of the Kumo-Manyskaya cavity), a wetland of international importance. Its number is restored. Methods for reintroducing grey goose have been developed. Bird tagging helps to recognize how reintroduced birds naturalize into a wild population. Over the past five years, grey geese have been tagged with GPS-GSM-transmitters under the supervision of the senior researcher MMBI Professor N.V. Lebedeva. Six artificially grown young geese were released on August 30, 2018, to a flock of wild geese. This work was covered by TV companies Russia1 DON and DON TP on August 31, 2018.
