22.06.2018

June 21, 2018, Murmansk Marine Biological Institute hosted a Russian-Norwegian workshop entitled "Oil Spill Modelling in Ice-Covered Ocean - and environmental consequences (OSMICO)" As the name of the seminar indicates, the topic of discussions between Russian and Norwegian scientists has been the increasing volumes of hydrocarbon production and transportation in the Arctic shelf and possible environmental problems associated with it, such as oil spills, especially in marine areas covered with ice, environmental consequences of such spills, ways of solving these problems with the help of mathematical modeling. The seminar was attended by Russian scientists and their colleagues from Norway: representatives of Norwegian scientific and consulting firm Akvaplan-Niva and Norwegian Meteorological Institute. The seminar is, in essence, a preliminary working meeting on the Norwegian-Russian project OSMICO - Oil Spill Modeling in Ice-Covered Ocean and Environmental Consequences, which partners should be MMBI and the above-mentioned Norwegian scientific organizations.
