COOPERATION IN THE BARENTS REGION. MMBI EMPLOYEES PARTICIPATED IN THE SEMINAR "ARCTIC MARINE ENVIRONMENT RESEARCH CO-OPERATION IN THE BARENTS REGION"

In Helsinki on 18-19 April, a seminar "Arctic Marine Environment Research Co-operation in the Barents Region" dedicated to cooperation in the Barents Sea region was held. The event was organized by the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE. The workshop included a plenary session and section work. Sections were held in a discussion format and were divided into three themes: 1. "Biodiversity and climate change in the Barents region", 2 "Human activities, cumulative effects, and impacts on the marine environment, including oil and hazardous substances effects ", 3. "Ecosystem approach in marine spatial planning". The event was attended by 31 participants, representatives of research organizations and other institutions of Finland and Russia, interested in strengthening scientific research cooperation in the Arctic. At the plenary session, a report was presented by MMBI (Moiseev D.V.) "On the experience of international cooperation in studies of marine ecosystems in the Barents region". Matisov G.G. participated in discussions (plenary session), Moiseev D.V. (section 1) and Vashchenko P.S. (section 3). During discussions, the most urgent environmental issues for the Barents region were identified, and future joint cooperation projects will be decided upon.
