ARCTIC IN THE EYES OF YOUNG RESEARCHERS: SCHOOLCHILDREN STUDY BIOLOGY IN MMBI

25.04.2018

Leading scientists of Murmansk Marine Biological Institute organized the scientific workshop for schoolchildren. Senior pupils are engaged in laboratories of zoobenthos, ornithology, and parasitology. Taking the first steps in science, in laboratories, young researchers got theoretical and practical skills in biology, formed a clearer idea of what field they want to work within the future, what knowledge and skills they will need for this. Children had their own small projects, in which, according to the plan drawn up together with the scientific leader, they were moving towards the intended result.
A ward of ornithology and parasitology laboratory leading researcher Ph.D. M.M. Kuklina Lisa Seldimirova is for more than a year actively interested in the problem of the influence of parasites on physiology and biochemistry of living organisms. Together with the head, they prepared a scientific paper "Inhibition of host protease activity by plerocercoids Schistocephalus solidus", which Lisa reported at the II All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference with international participation "The future of the Arctic begins here", which took place in Apatity on April 18-20, 2018. Lisa’s confident report was noted by the competition committee with a diploma of the second degree.

Employees of MMBI KSC RAS also took part in the scientific conference in Apatity. Reports on the pollution of the Barents and White Seas were made by Laboratory of Oceanography and Radioecology staff, I.S. Usyagina, and A.S. Bulavina. M.M. Kuklina told the audience about diphyllobothriasis problem in the Murmansk region.
