SCIENTISTS OF MMBI DISCUSSED WITH BARENTSBURG SCHOOLBOYS ITS RESEARCHES

In March 2018, a new field season of MMBI scientists was launched on the Spitsbergen archipelago within a research theme of the state task framework "Comprehensive studies of fjords and seas ecosystems washing the Svalbard archipelago". A research group of biologists from MMBI KSC RAS came to Barentsburg of the Spitsbergen archipelago: ornithologist Dr. N.V. Lebedeva, geomorphologist Ph.D. N.I. Meshcheryakov, planktologist Ph.D. I.V. Berchenko, benthos researcher O.L. Zimina. The task is to collect material for studying the current state of environment and biota components of marine ecosystems in an area of the Spitsbergen archipelago.

Traditionally, MMBI staff, being at a biostation in Barentsburg, are in active contact with Russian and Norwegian research and production and educational institutions located in the Svalbard archipelago during the organization and carrying out of research. In order to broader of schoolchildren outlook on April 11, 2018, Professor Natalia Lebedeva delivered a lecture "Birds of the Barentsburg village" for pupils of the "Modern Russian Arctic School" 1-10 grades.
