EMPLOEES OF MMBI KSC RAS TOOK PART IN THE GEOGRAPHICAL DICTATION DURING THE MARINE EXPEDITION

27.11.2017

Another regular geographic dictation took place November 26, 2017. Questions were complex, but solvable. The dictatorship's audience went beyond boundaries of the Russian Federation. For the first time, sites of the dictation outside Russia were registered. Special status was granted to two ship sites: one on the RV "Academik Fedorov", which was in the port of Cape Town (South Africa), the other on the RV "Dalnie Zelentsy" of Murmansk Marine Biological Institute in the Barents Sea. RV "Dalnye Zelentsy" completed scientific program in the area of Spitsbergen archipelago and now follows the edge of sea ice in the north of the Barents Sea. Scientists face serious scientific problems in the study of marine ecosystems in the Barents Sea in winter ice zone during polar night. Pioneer studies of MMBI KSC RAS, conducted in the 1990s, showed that the life of microplankton under ice in polar night does not decay, as was previously thought. Foreign scholars only recently made the same conclusions.
Scientific staff of MMBI KSC RAS and Volunteer RGS from the Chuvash regional office - Dmitry Alekseev took part in the geographical dictation at RV "Dalnie Zelentsy". Before that, he took part in the expedition of the RGS to Hogland island. And now, he went to the marine research of the Barents and Greenland seas.
